Tenor saxist Nicole teams up with Tyrone Allen/b, Kayvon Gordon and vet Steve Nelson/vib for a mix of jazz covers and originals. Of the former, she’s deep and abstract on a trio read of Ornette Coleman’s “Open or Close” , modal over Dordon’s drive on “Munson” and with Nelson Modal on “One Second, Please”, floating for “I’ve Grown Accustomed to Her Face”. Glover’s own “Blues For Mel” is a crisp bopper, and Allen’s “The A-Side” has the leader floating like a nimbus cloud. Great tone with fresh ideas.
