John Hart: Exit From Brooklyn

Guitarist John Hart has a cool and tasty tone to his strings, and he teams them well with the conversant Bill Moring/b and Tim Horner/dr on this collection of standards and originals. A pair of Monk tunes highlight the teams strengths, as “Ask Me Now” is quite playful and “Jackie-ing” has some kinetic fun with Horner’s snappy drum work. Hart knows how to caress the strings, as “Where Or When” is soft and gentle, and his intro to “April In Paris” is fragrant and ebullient. Spacious chords cry on “Just Friends” and he shows some riffing twangs on his own “I Mean It.” Horner’s brush work on the tender “Star Crossed Lovers” is tactile, and Moring delivers a hip cadence on the title track. Nothing flashy, just delicious.
