Pianist John Stetch goes solo here and mixes the best of classical with modern jazz thoughts here. He takes a Mozart Sonata and gives it a jazzy bounce while his take of a Bach Italian Concerto has fun and fanciful moments. A deeply complex reading of Chopin’s Ballad No. 1 takes you on a 12 minute tour, leading into an opus by Shostakovich. His own Preludes and Fugues are filled with fancy and ruminations, while he closes the release with a rag that is exciting and brimming with delights. Moving forward by looking back!
