Jon Lundbom & Big Five Chord: Liverevil

Guitarist/composer Jon Lundbom is caught in concert here for two sets leading a rollicking and swinging band  at the Brooklyn Fire Proof.  The rest of the band consists of a two sax front line of Jon Irabagon and Bryan Murray and a flexible yet swinging rhythm section of Moppa Elliott/b, Dan Monaghan/dr and Matt Kanelos/key.

The first set has the two saxes creating some volcanic lava rich harmonies on the slightly bopping “The Difference” and the sing songy “Tick-Dog” while Lundbom’s electric guitar gets aggressive on the latter. Some Bitches Brewish keyboards pop up on “Our Sun” and thoughtful tenor work is provided by Murray on “First Harvest/Evening Shadows.” The second set is a bit wilder, with a plodding and jarring “Bring Forth the Battalions” followed by a bluesy and rock beat for “On Jacataion.” A snappy “These Changes” slowly gets chaotic while the closer “Have Your Ever…” has sounds like they rhythm team is running a three legged race. Exciting, often swinging, and even the indulgences make for a fun night in Brooklyn.
