Vocalist April May Webb co-leads with trumpeter Randall Haywood (Hence the “A” and “R” moniker) along with a team of Charlie Sigler/g, James Austin/p, Nathan Webb/dr, Jacob Webb/b and Riza Printup/p for an album of messages and emotion. Ms Webb has a warm honey toned voice, classy on “They Keep Saying No”, soulful on “I’m Old Fashioned” and giving a testimony on the socially conscious title track. Haywood’s horn works well with Webb to give a soulful backing to Webb on a rich take of Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” with the two showing passion with support by Nathan Webb on “The Skin I’m In”.
