Ready for the Great Video Game Songbook?
The 8-Bit Big Band is an orchestra ranging anywhere from 30-65 musicians. They take the themes from their collection of video games and put them into a jazz environment. It’s weird, but it works!
To list all of the musicians in this album would take up pages of lists, almost like “who begat who” in the books of the Bible. What’s to take away is that there are a lot of synthy grooves and sounds, with urgent drives supplied by pianist Steven Feifke on “Chrono Trigger Main Theme”, punchy pulses teamed with Grace Kelly’s alto on the funky “Hydrocity Zone” and a Broadway-ish “Jump Up Super Star” featuring Tiffany Mann in strong vocals. Sounds from an Armenian Wedding get festive on “Super Mario Land Underground” and the disco gets ducky on “Metaknights Revenge”. Thumb tapping tunes!
