Dave Pietro leads a post bop team of Alex Sipiagin/tp-fh, Ryan Keberle/tb, Gary Versace/key, Johannes Weidenmueller/b, Johnathan Blake/dr and Rogerio Boccato/perc as he interpretes his compositions with his alto, soprano and C melody sax along with flute in tow. His soprano has a rich tone on the rubato “Orison” while his anachronistic C Melody sounds positively modern as he lopes to the cadence of the rhythm team on “Incandescent”. Some soulful keyboard work by Versace gives a sleek “Quantum Entanglement” with drums sitting out, and with Blake back on the scene, “Tales of Mandacity” features a rapid run with Sipiagin and Pietro’s alto racing to the finish line. Impressive deliveries and changes of pace.
