Orlando Le Fleming: Romantic Funk-The Unfamiliar

Bassist Orlando Le Fleming brings together a nimble team that is reminiscent of the early fusion days of Stanley Clarke as he joins together Philip Dizack/tp, Will Vinson/as, Sean Wayland/keys, Kush Abade-Nate Wood/dr for some post bop themes. He tips his cap to Miles Davis with the trumpeter’s famous quote with a hip electric bass line as Dizack punches his horn through “I’ll Tell You What It Is Later”. Woods drives the team with a clever pattern as Dizack’s muted horn and Vinson’s bright alto simmer over Le Fleming’s grooved fingers on the spacey “The Myth Of Progress”. Some splashy Weather Report effects by the leader and Wayland get down on the galloping “FOMO Blues” and the horns swerve like cars on a race track as bass and drums sizzle on the similarly-inspired  “Mischievous”.  Long shadows are cast with a morning brass as the team wafts to a close on “The Inexpressible”. The body is cast electric.
