Guitarist and singer Mike Zito brings in a collection of all stars on this Joe Bonamassa-produced session. Joe B brings in a few axes along with Josh Smith/g, Reese Wynans/key, Calvin GTurner/b, Lemar Carter and Paule Cerra/ts, all associated with the blues rocker. You can feel the Bonamassa touch on the thick and thunderous “Nobody Moves Me Like You Do” and when Cerra wails with Zito on the boogie-ing “Lonely Man”. A take of The Guess Who classic “These Eyes” includes some sweet strings and female accompaniment, and Zito gives a gospel voice on the dramatic and electrifying read of Rev. Gary Davis’ “Death Don’t Have No Mercy”. A tropical read of Stevie Wonder’s “Have Talk With God” has some snazzy guitar work framed by the background singers, and the blues are stomped out on “No One To Talk To (But The Blues)”. Is this guy ever coming to LA?
