Larry Goldings & John Sneider: Chinwag

Larry Goldings must have lots of room in his garage, because he has to have somewhere to store all of the different  keyboards that he uses on this series of duets with trumpeter John Schneider. What he does,is play tvarious pianos, organs, harmoniums, celestas, synth basses and what have yous, and creates and almost vaudevillian atmosphere with Sneider, as if you’re listening to the concert soundtrack to an old silent film. Pre-Swing, Pre-Hays Code sounds from WC Handy on “Hesitation Blues” or Eubie Blake on “Love Will Find a Way” sit in the same row with a brilliant working of Thelonious Monk on”In Walkded Bud”. Goldings’ own material such as “The Great Zamboni” make you thinkthat the circus is in town, and Sneider’s “Sepia” sounds like an outtake from Duke Ellington’s “Jungle” period. Where are the liner notes by Harold Lloyd?
