SAY AMEN! The Original Gospel Harmonettes: The Collection 1949-62

Few gospel bands capture the power of the music as well as Dorothy Love Coates and her Original Gospel  Harmonettes. This 3 disc 65 song collection goes all the way back to 1949 and ends with her early 60s material, all of it filled with “the power” you  expect from the genre. I personally play this music every Sunday before going to church to the ready for “the feelin’”!

The early material as Coates as part of team, and not quite out in lead yet, as on “Thirty Pieces of Silver” and “Move Up A Little Higher”, but she comes into her own as she spews out holy fire on “Get Away Jordan” , “I’m Sealed” and “I’m Going To Die With The Staff In My Hand”. She takes charge like a prophet from the mountain on “No Hiding Place” and “He’s Calling Me”. Later in her career, she’s still in full form at a gospel concert and tears through “Step Back” and “When”,  with the band changing a bit with the times by 1962 on “Pray For Deliverance” and “Hide My Jesus”. There’s also a medley from a 1955 concert in LA that , if it doesn’t get you on your feet, you just might be dead. Get this and get a hint of heaven.
