Vince Guaraldi: A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving

As the soundtrack to the 1973 TV Special, A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving is not as iconic as the Christmas one, but it definitely has its own charms. Originally televised and recorded 8 years after Christmas, the music reflects the change in pianist/composer Vince Guaraldi as well. He still has Tom Harrell/tp, but now brings in Mike Clark/dr, Chuck Bennett/tb, Seward McCain/b, but more importantly, he plays electric piano most of the time here, and even sings on a tune, “ Little Birdie”. Some of the pieces like “Thanksgiving Theme” and “Charlie Brown Blues” almost sound like something from Herbie Hancock, with some soul jazz grooves on “Thanksgiving Interlude” and “Peppermint Patty”. There’s still some acoustic work on an extra take of “Linus and Lucy” with Guaraldi having some fun on “Charlie Brown Blues” and  “Clark and Guaraldi”. Snoopy plugs in.
