Chris Greene Quartet: playSPACE

Chicago-based saxist Chris Greene leads a muscular band of Damian Espinosa/p-key, Marc Piane/b and Steve Corley/dr-perc through a collection of assertive originals plus a cover. Greene’s tone is filled with grit and swagger, blowing out with declaration on “Blues For Doctor Fear” or getting funky with even his pads getting into the beat on the funky “The Crossover Appeal-Uno Mas.” The rhythm team is kinetic on “Thunder Snow” with Greene and Corley going mano a mano as the sparks fly, while Wayne Shorter’s “Speak No Evil” is a filled with Latin loving. Greene switches to soprano and floats to a moody “Clean and Clear” while showing his pretty side of the tenor with Piane on ”Three and Six” lots of confidence exuded here.
