The Adam Price Group: House Ghosts

You don’t get a lot of albums by clarinet players these days, so this own by Adam Price is a treat. No covers; he writes all of the material for his team of Isamu McGregor/p, Jack Synoski/b, Spencer Inch/dr, Jeff Hatcher/perc and Kristina Rajgelj/voc and mixes hip swinging moments with rich and evocative moods.

Price’s tone on the stick is warm and woody, nice and bluesy on the klezmerish “Storyville” and bopping to the snapping rhythm team on “Rotten Grapes,” building up to an exciting climax on “Mzungu.” Wih Rajgelj, the two blend sensuously to McGregor’s piano on “Eu Quero Voce” and ooze on “Summer Thunder” while the vocalist gets passionate on the folksy “Chameleon Colored Eyes.” Lots of sonic images that range from mysterious to celebratory. Impressive!
