Old Riley and the Water: Biting Through

Guitarist/vocalist Sean Riley gets roots with trio partners Ray Micarelli/d, Andrew Landry and guest Joshua Cook/g-voc on this concise collection of bluesy originals. He teams up with the earthy harmonica  of Scott Craver to create fuzzy textures on the rockabilly “Howlin’ For My Darlin’” and snarling title track. His Joe Walshy voice works on the boogie blueser “Kind-Hearted Woman” and cooks up someMemphis chunks are spit out on “Trouble.” Some impressive slide guitar shows grit for the desultory “Blues Walking” and a funky soul is opened for “Power to Change.” Roadhouse blues.
