Eddie Palmieri: Full Circle

At 82 years young, pianist and composer Eddie Palmieri is one of the living masters of Latin jazz. This exciting big band album focuses on the vocals strength of Herman Olivera, as his passionate tenor is a full bodied delight. The brass is bright and the congas percolate with the timbales underneath for a subterranean rumble for supercharged pieces such as “Vamonos PaiI Monte” (in two different versions) and Azucar. Exciting choruses make for sparks to fly on “ Pa La Ocha Tambo along with guest Ronnie Cuber’s baritone sax, and Palmieri, while still being the prototypical salsa  pianist, gets freer and more modal with age as he sounds fresher than ever during pieces like “Paol Pa Rumba” and “Muneca.” A fountain of Latin youth.
