Bassist Andrew Schiller leads a breathy two tenor sax quintet on this breathy collection of originals. The team of Hery Paz & Alex Harper provide a velvety from line for Schiller and a rhythm team of Frank Carlberg/p and Robin Baytas/dr. The leader keeps a strong pulse on the open spaced pieces such as the soft “Go Get “em Tiger!” and gentle “One That Never Was.” The reeds form a rich shag carpet of sounds while Baytas rumbles underneath on “CFBDSIR-2149” and plods with a soft pulse on the cool toned “Little Shoes.” The team is able to show it’s bop chops as they get nimble on “Skegness is SO Bracing” while they get footloose and fancy free on the loosely interpretive “Wander.” Soft bop all around.
