Gene Pritsker: Melodies Alone Can Proudly Carry Their Own Death

Composer Gene Pritsker shows his skill at the pen with eleven rich compositions in a variety of milieu. Daniele Colombo’s violin delivers Eastern European moods on “Opposite Extreme of Compassion” whereas Pat O’Keefe’s bass clarinet percolates with Patti Cudd’s percussion on a four movement “A Certain Degree of Neurosis.” Other string solos include Colombo’s violin on the rich “She’s So Chaconne” and Borislav Strulev’s cello on the evocative “In Memory of Dave Gotay” with the leader’s electric guitar mixing cleverly with Michiyo Suzuki’s bass clarinet on the sly “ Ineffably Still.” Melodies and mirth.
