Consisting of Stephen Ulrich/g, Yuval Lion/dr and Andrew Hall/b, Big Lazy takes you back to the days of rock instrumentals, when Dick Dale, Duane Eddy and Link Wray delivered concise and swinging material without the need of some teen pop vocals. Along with the core cast, guests Steven Bernstein/tp, Peter Hess/bs, Charlie Giordano/acc, Willie Martinez/perc and Mick Rossi/org move in and out like characters in an Agatha Christie novel. Easy lilting pieces like “Minor Problem” showcase Urlich’s warm tone while surf is definitely up on “Human Sacrifice.” A Middle Eastern mood slithers through on “Avenue X” and you get a 60s Teen B Movie feel on “Night Must Fall “ and “ Swampesque.” Holy Santos and Johnny-this is a great hoot!
