Glostrup Trioen & Alice Carreri: Spirit

Vocalist Alice Carreri teams up with the Glostrup Trioen team of Torben Kjaer/p, Hernrik Dhyrbye/b and Ole Streenberg/dr along with guest tenor saxist Tomas Franck for a collection of tunes that mixes the spaciousness of Miles Davis’ Kind of Blue with John Coltrane’s Ballads album. In fact, two songs from the latter, “Too Young to Go Steady” and “All or Nothing At All” are included with Franck’s horn being a tad more edgy than the original, while Carreri’s vocal slides along between the brushes, bass and piano. The team sounds “Blue in Green” shadowy on the luminous “Far Away Star” and even delivers the Evans/Davis tune as an instrumental to close the album, while “Some Other Time” has Bill Evans-style shadows casting along Carreri’s dreamy and reflective vocals. The team gets cozy on”E Si Domani” while they show their pep on “That Old Devil Moon” all the while Carreri sparkles like a gentle north star. Soft and gentle.
