Playing a wide variety of traditional Asian instruments, Mn Xiao-Fen teams up with the equally eclectic percussionist River Guerguerian for a collection of alliterative originals. The strings bend on the Middle Eastern “Mello” and “Mantra”, while ther is a gentle choir on “Merciful”. Some free jazz gets explorative on ”Mindful” and the harplike “Mystique” has a rich texture. Dark and visceral voices and h orns take place on “Mighty” with the two getting reflective on the riffing “Magic”. Majestrial and marvelous.
