David Cross Band: Ice Blue-Silver Sky

Best known for his work with King Crimson over 50 years ago, violinist David Cross shows he’s moved on with his career with a hard rocking team of Jinian Wilde/g-voc-fl, Mick Paul/b, Steve Roberts/dr and guest David Jackson/sax. Cross and company do revisit Crimson’s famous “Starless”, and the leader is in good form, with the delivery much more deliberate and plodding a half century later. There’s a mix of reggae and electronic gurgles on th epoppish “Calamity”  and hints of the rock group Uriah Heep with Wilde’s vocals on the metallic “Nurse Insane” and “Nowhere” with Wilde’s flutefloating on the harrowing “Karma Again”. Looking back and moving on.
