Doug Beavers: Luna

Trombonist, composer and arranger Doug Beaver  mixes medium and big sized bands on this sophisticatedly arranged album. There’s a six part “Luna Suite” that includes bold colors that are funky on “Las Piedras” and some salsa that features the voices of Jeremy Bosch (along with flute )and Ada Dyer, Joe Locke brings his vibes to a hip hugger of “Sea” and Conrad Herwig gets some trombone soling space with Francisco Torres on the brassy “For de Lis”. A dramatic “Sands of Time” brings out the boldness in Dyer, with Locke’s vibes slithering around the climax. Rich charts.
