Here’s an album that has truth in advertising. Muscular post boppers Mike LeDonne/p, Eric Alexander/ts, Jeremy Pelt/tp, Vincent Herring/as, Peter Washington/b, Kenny Washington/dr and guest Rale Micic/g get together for a vintage sounding blue plate special. The album has Jazz Messengers/Horace Silver feel, no solo overstays its welcome and the grooves run deep. Pelt is a force of nature with Alexander and the hard driving “Hub” and the two created a formidable front line on the soul groover “Silver and letting loose on “Cedar Land”. LeDonne is Debussy-esque with the big toned Alexander on “Big Richard” and Washington’s bass cuts a rivulet on “Chainsaw”. Take two of these every day to blow away the blues.
