Pianist, arranger and orchestrator Steven Feifke co-leads with trumpeter Bijon Watson on a solid, bold and hard swinging 17+ member big band that includes heavy hitters like Roxy Coss/ts-fl, Will Brahm/g, and all star guests Kurt Elling/voc and Sean J ones/tp. Jones lights up on the peppy “Dollar’s Moods” and the hard swinging “Blues In A Second” and Elling is luminous on a clever read of Sting’s “Until” while getting funky on a get down “Sassy”. Watson himself gives a rich aria on the pretty “Remember Me” and sears through the sax section on a textured take of Horace Silver’s classic “Nica’ Dream”. Coss tears through the ravenously swinging “I’ve Got Algorithm” and the team sounds Rat Packy on the bold and bright “Scenes From My Dreams”. A wide ranging palate of bold colors.
