Bassist Clark Sommers brings in a two reed team of Geof Bradfeld/ts-ss-bcl and Chris Madsen/ts with a fluid team of Matt Gold/g and Dana Hall/dr through a collection of post bop originals. The team has an ESP feel, with Bradfeld’s soprano dancing around “Silent Observer” and with his bass clarinet on the brooding “Ancient Voice” coaxed by Hall’s mallets. The horns gel warmly on the mildly swaying “Also Tomorrow” and trudge on the dirge-like title tune. Gold is nimble around the sleek rhythm on “Invisible Arrow” and the leader gets the spotlight on “Harbor” and leading into the softly swinging “Nichols On The Water”. Palpable textures.
