PIANO TRIOS…Enrico Pieranunzi: Something Tomorrow, Ariane Racicot: Envolee

Pianist Enrico Pieranunzi joins forces with bassist Thomas Fonnesbaek and drummer Andre’ Ceccarelli for a collection of mostly originals on this gracefully swinging set. The team digs in hardest for the single cover, a pulsating read of “This Is New” while the team also has some fun jabbing and punching through the pianist’s “Three Notes”. Fonnesbaek is featured on the serenade of “Je Ne Sais Quoi” and swings on the up beat “Perspectives” with Cecarelli’s brushes assuaging the delicate “Wave Of Interest” and pulsating under Pieranunzi’s dancing digins on the upbeat “Perspectives”. A first class act.

Canadian pianist Ariane Racicot focuses on her own compositions with electric bassist Antoine Rochefort and drummer Guillaume Picard/Martin Plante on this 5 song ep. Her touch is dark and probing on ”Vertige” and relentless on the chase scene of “A Ciel Ouvert”. Picard’s high hit simmers on the urgent “Bicycle Ride” and his brushes add a bohemian atmosphere to the noir alley of “Crepuscule”. Racicot has a warm touch throughout, clear and focused around Rochefort’s bass on “Coffee and Cigarettes” with each tune here a thoughtful work of the pen and phallanges.
