SINGER/SONGWRITER…Michael McAdam: Tremolo, Jeremy Joyce: Street Poet

The art of playing your own material is not dead, as these two artists attest…

A mix of Dylan, Nashville and Tom Petty takes place on this album by singer/songwriter Michael McAdam, who mixes his material with clever covers. He plays a slew of guitars, bass and percussion, bringing in various guests here and there, including Jack Irwin/org-perc an  Garry Tallent/b. There’s a nice blue grassy read of Tim Harden’s “Don’t Make Promises” as well as a Heartbreaker rendition of The Rolling Stones’ “I’m Free”. Some Byrds influence is head on “Allentown” and the Nashville’d “Venus” with the team rocking steady on the easy rider of “Hand ON The Trigger”. Blue jeaned journeys.

New Orleans based Jeremy Joyce mixes various flavors of blue plate Americana on this latest album, singing and playing guitar with a horn section of Alex Geddes/sax-Jonathan Bauer/tp, Daniel Meinecke/keys, Rose Cangelosi/dr and Sam Albright/b as a core along with various guests. His voice is reminiscent of Michael Franks, clean and clever on his musings such as the soulful title tune, the street preaching “Lower Decatur Blues” or the Dr. John-ish “All Night All Night”. He rocks the blues on “Be Bad To Me Baby” and gives a dash of Nashville for the folksy “We Could Linger Though The Raindrops Fall” and “High Heel Blues”. Vintage singer songwriting sessions.
