Guitarist and composer Brent Laidler gives tribute to musical inspirations on this upbeat and swinging session with Mark Buselli/tp-fh, Ned Boyd/sax-fl, Jamie Newman/org, Scott Pazera/b and Richard Floyd/dr. A bunch of the material has that classic Cannonball Adderley soul groove feel as on the gospel’d “A Second Chance” and the fun “Foo’s Blues”. There is also a hefty serving of Brazilian samba sounds with Floyd gliding with Laidler on “You Ain’t The Bossa Me” and Pazera serving up a mean groove on “One More” (A Samba)” with the harmonies draped like a linen shirt on “Pretty Little Bossa”. Newman hums along on the Hammond for “Sunday Mood” and Laidler is like dry ice for the cool “City By The Bay”. Warm and frothy.
