Composer and conductor Jessica Pavone conducts an eight piece string octet of Aimee Niemann-Charlotte Munn-Wood/vi, Jessica Pavone-Abby Sidler/va, Christopher Hoffman-Meaghan Burke/cel and Shayna Dulberger-Nicholas Jozwiak/b along with soloist Nate Wooley/tp and Brian Chase/perc. The four pieces include melancholy strings in an elliptical “Indolent”, a percussive intro to the loose yet intricate “Holt” and long tones on the horn for dark harmonies during “Ingot”. Deep counter melodies converse on the swaying and swerving “Midmost”, with the album feeling like modern extensions of Benjamin Britten.
