Mads Mathias: I’m All Ears

A pleasant and hip mix of crooning, jazz and modern pop is delivered by tenor saxist and Jamie Cullum-inspired vocalist Mads Mathias on this inviting collection of originals. He has a core team of Peter Rosendal/p, Morten Ankarfeldt/b and Jmes Madden/dr which is occasionally supplemented by a collection of strings or extra beefed up horns.

His tenor sax is warm, soulful and relaxed when featured as on the instrumental “Forget Me Not” , while his voice is assured and assuring with keyboards on the nightclubby title tune and the cozy “The Forbidden Word”. With the extra horns, he swings with boy next door swagger on “Labour of Love” and shows some humor on “Henpecked Man” while the strings serve as moody drapery on the ballad “Angel In Disguise”. His delivery is well timed, never overplaying his hand, showing great restraint on the seductive “Little Then Did I Know”, and the fact that the tunes are his own, shows he’s a triple threat. Check him out.
