Vibraphonist Wolfgang Lackerschmid leads his quart
et of Mark Soskin/p, Jay Anderson/b and Adam Nussbaum/dr through a sublime mix of originals and standards. Of the latter, there is an eerie mood created by the resonant metal on a haunting “Rosemary’s Baby” directed by Anderson’s bass, and Nussbaum is nimble on the swaying take of “Poinciana”. Lackerschmid waltzes through the vibrating “Half the Way” and is gently teamed with Soskin during “Summer Changes”, while the team clickety clacks through the pulsating heartbeat of “Lemon Moon”. The team stretches out and allows Anderson some solo space on the journey of “Stundenwalzer” while the band chimes on the echoey “We Ain’t No Magicians”. Wind chimed vibes.
