Berta Moreno’s Afro-Jazz Project: Tumaini

Tenor saxist and composer Berta Moreno creates ten rich and pulsating Afro-Cuban originals with an upbeat team of Manuel Valera/p-key, Maksim Perepelica/b, Raphael Pannier/dr, Franco Pinna/perc and vocalist Alana Sinkey. The band mixes contemporary jazz sounds a la bands like Caldera or Hiroshima, with Sinkey in a funky mood on ”Karibu”,  her voice joining on the rich journey with Moreno’s tenor sax on “Hope” and getting earthy with piano and percussion on “Mandhari I”. Moreno gets dreamy on the world wide sound of “Afrika” and funky on “Christine”. East Africa meets the Caribbean on the cruising “Kutemba” and the percussion gets tribal on “Hope”. Equatorial energy.
