Guitarist Lorne Lofsky teams with Kirk MacDonald/ts, Kieran Overs/b and Barry Romberg/dr through a collection of lithe post bop originals and clever covers. Of the latter, they deliver a pulsating take of Miles Davis’ “Seven Steps” that cruises well, along with a brilliant bossa nova version of “Stable Mates” . Lofsky’s guitar is gentle and rich for “The Time Being” and pastoral with Romberg’s deft brush work on the title tune, while he teams up with Overs for a rich cadence on “An Alterior Motif.” The team shows a whimsical side on the buoyant “Evans from Lennie” and digs deep on the bopping “Live From The Apollo”.
