Paul Winter: Light of the Sun

World music master Paul Winter creates dreamy moods in atmospheres of piano, guitar and nature on this recent release. Most interestingly, he interprets a pair of tunes from bop pianist Denny Zeitlin, creating highlights with piano on the ethereal “Hymn” and the textured “Quiet Now”. Some sounds of nature serve as backdrop for Winter’s solstice on “Wolf Eyes” and “The Well -Tempered Wood Thrush” as he’s joined by guitar here and on the classically classy “Primavera”. The music is always amber-toned, and it answers the quotes posed by Dostoevsky in “Beauty will save the world”  and Yevtushenko with “Yes, but who will save beauty?” Winter serves as the lifeguard
