Bobby Selvaggio: Live From The Bop Stop

Recorded “live” at the Bop Stop at the Music Settlement in swinging Ohio, this album has Bobby Selvaggion playing a boppingly bright alto along with some pedal affects, mixing and matching with his core team of Theron Brown/p-key,  Paul Thompson/b and Zaire Darden/dr with cameo guests Dan Wilson/eg and a horn section of Tommy Lehman/fh, Liz Carney/cl, Summ Cantor/bsn and Kent Larmee/Fh. Selvaggio does some clever things as on “Times A’Changing” and “Too Soon”  with the extra horns adding rich harmonics and textures to the post-modern pieces. “Hope” stretches out with assertiveness, reminiscent of mid 60s Blue Note sessions, while the 15 minute “Spy Movie” features space effects from another planet. Thompson’s bass is gorgeous on “Blackbird” and Wilson glides through the propulsive “Hope” with the rhythm section in high gear during “Bella”. Cinemascopic in range.
