Marina Albero: A Life Soundtrack

An ambitious three disc set by pianist/composer Marina Albero ranges from her own compositions, standards and improvisations, ranging in formats from solo to duet to ensembles, including vocalits.

Each album has a title and mood. Alberto has in a trio format with Bori Albero/b and Dani Rodriguez/dr along with earthy vocals by Alba Carmona on “Mi Secreto” and some Konnakol singing with Gyan Singh’s tablas for “Indian Jam”. Agua is a collection of spontaneous compositions with Hans Teuber on sax for “Interlude,” “Superionic” and “Nana Del Mar” while in solo format being dainty on “Contracorrinte” and intricately intimate for “Agua Clara”. The last disc, Music Is Love, teams her with Teuber, Jeff Johnson/b, Jeff Busch/perc, D’Vonne Lewis/dr, Serena Albero/voc and Marcel Albero/as for a rich dance of “My Favorite Things” and a stark and dark read of Miles Davis’ “Nardis”. Albero’s voice is passionate on “What Is This Thing Called Love” and she teams with the alto sax for a ebullient “Music Is Love”. Ambitious and personal.
