Drummer Dor Herskovits is featured on two albums here, as leader and follower
Drummer and composer Dor Herskovits brings poems to read while listening to the associated songs accompanied by Caio Afiune/g, Isaac Wilson/p, Max Ridle/b and Hery Paz/ts. The songs feature some laid back grooves featuring Wilson on “Recursion” and the impressionistic “Water” with droplets supplied by Afiune. Herskovits has the team dig in on a muscular title track with a big sound emanating from Paz’s tenor, and the team is loose and intuitive on the communicative “Sob.” Post bop with various directions.
Modern tones are produced by the team of Tree Palmedo/tp, Kevin Sun/ts-cl, Simon Willson/b and Dor Herskovits/dr. The team shows some hard bop chops with Sun’s tenor on “Big Bear” and the title tune, while an easy blues cruises with Sun and a muted Palmedo on the bluesy “Sink Song.” Palmedo’s brass is polished on the lusc “Volume” and the team swirls into various moods on “Suchness.” With Sun on clarinet, the team gets a bit more frisky, intricate on “Silo” and creating clever patterns on “Gallimaufry.” A chamber with many doors.
