Pianist and composer Senri Oe has been putting together a clever catalogue, with albums ranging from bop to cabaret. This time around, he leads a trio with bassist Matt Clohesy and drummer Ari Hoenig for nine charming and melodic originals. He has a fluid touch as Hoenig snaps on the hip hoppy and pretty “Re:Vision” and is soulful on the backbeat of “The Look.” The three get busy on the sensuous Latin Samba” and rock out a bit on “Orange Desert.” Some rich blues are relaxing on”A Fireplace” and a modern yet melodic “Indoor Voices” has intriguing directions. Oe produces a couple solo arias, ebullient on the embracing “Freshening Up” and reflective for “When Life Was A Pizza Party.” Sounds with a smile.
