Tinsley Ellis: Tough Love

Here’s some good old fashioned rocking’ blues for you. Tinsley Ellis sings like he’s been on a CB for 20 years, picks like he was weaned on Albert King and leads a stomping team of Kevin McKEndree/key, Lynn Williams/d and Steve Mackey/b that stomp like it’s a late night on Beale Street. You got a good amount of shufflin’ boogie on tunes like “Midnight Ride” and “The King Must Die” while his harp haunts on “Everything.” The mood gets ominous and dark on the foreboding “In From The Cold” and he takes you to the Delta with his acoustic axe on “Give It Away.” His picking is clean, and he knows how to bend a string or two while the team gets smoky with a thick horn section on “All In The Name Of Love.” Comfort food from the plate of a Strat.
