The LA Treasures Project: Live at Alvas Showroom

Here are Exhibit A, B and C why LA has some of the best music in the world. Recorded in that swinging town of San Pedro at a music store, this gig has the home grown Hamilton-Clayton Jazz Orchestra in full throttle, bouncing like Basie and elegant like Ellington on pieces such as “I Love Being Here With You” and “Hat’s Dance” with solos galore by the likes of Ira Nepus/tb, Tamir Hendleman/p and Jeff Hamilton/dr. Up to the stage pop Angeleno vocalists Ernie Andrews and Barbara Morrison, and away we go! Morrison is filled with vinegar on “Exactly Like You” and “Fever” sounding wonderfully sassy. Andrews exudes the blues, and is in prime rib form on ”The Jug and I” and “Beautiful Friendship.” Nothing fancy here, just straightahead unwatered joy, reminding you why jazz is the music and LA is the place!
