Los Lobos: Si’ Se Puede!

How much do you want to bet that you didn’t know that this was actually Los Lobos’ debut disc back in 1976? Thought so! What happened was that back then TV producer Art Brambila wanted to give a tribute to Cesar Chavez, and the United Farm Workers, and this album was part of the product. Except for “Manana Is Now”, which features Geree Gonzalez and Tierra, all of the vocals are in Spanish. Los Lobos joins with the Santa Isabel School Children’s Choir for a lovely “De Colores’ and bring Tierra, Conrad Lozano, Geree Gonzalez and Carmen Moreno together for the anthem No Nos Moveran.” The rest of the material is traditional folk sounds you’d hear in the mountain pueblos, including some lilting violins on “Mujeres Valientes” and lusty vocals on “Corrido de Delores Huerta #39” this disc takes you not only back in time, but to another part of the world. Wondeful sounds and atmosphere.
