Doxas Brothers: The Circle

Brother Chet Doxas on the tenor joins with Jim on drums as they co-lead a quartet of pianist Marc Copland and bassist Adrian Vedady through a collection dominated by bluesy broods that build up to a dramatic climax. Case in point are “Una A La Vez” and “Another Soap Box” that open with rich tenor ideas in a melancholy mood, but eventually you start asking yourself “When’s it coming” and..bam! there it is, the change in gears to fierce declarations. Vedady keeps it stable on the darker “A Word From The Wise” and the agonizing “Goodbye”, and Chet’s tenor is romantic on “Joan’s Song”. Emotions, but with a need of controlled feelings.
