Bassist Morten Haxholm’s team of Jonathan Kreisberg/g, Ari Hoenig/dr, Nikolaj Hess/p and Frederick Menzies/ts are recorded during a two day stint at The Village in Copenhagen back in January, 2017. The band swings subtle post bop, impressing you with cool bounces and lyricism. Bouncy modal pieces like the title track include Menzies’ warm tenor sax, while the team chimes with Hess on “Leviathon” and skips along on “Deep Sea Explorer.” Without the sax, Kreisberg gets featured on the soft and delicate “Central Park West” and floating “A World Without End” with Haxholm digging in deep with Hoenig on a pulsating “All or Nothing At All.” Modern sophistication that moves.
