Brandon Goldberg: In Good Time

Pianist Brandon Goldberg features possibly the last session of hard bopping drum legend Ralph Peterson on this vintage sounding album along with Luques Curtis/b, Josh Evans/tp, Stacy Dillardss-ts and guest Antoine Drye/tp on a mix and match of standards and originals. Peterson himself gives an opening message before leading the team into an assertive and hard hitting “Authority” while his sticks are nifty and bouncy under Dillard’s soprano on “Circles”. Evans is easy on the ears for the romantic “Time” while concise with Dillard’s tenor on the classic “Nefertiti”. As for the leader, he’s a ton of fun on the trio session of the bop classic “ Monk’s Dream”, allowing Peterson to show his wares, and gives a gorgeous solo aria to “Someone To Watch Over Me”. The team gets frisky on the extroverted “Ninety Six” with the album closing on a gorgeous conversation between Goldberg and Drye on a lovely “Send In The Clowns”. Timeless atmospheres.
