The Puppini Sisters
The Rise and Fall Of Ruby Woo
Verve

Was last year’s surprise disc by the “sisters” a fluke? These ladies are taking no chances. While the familiar blend of voices is still intact, the approach has been changed a tad. Still present are the creative readings of familiar pop songs, yet none of them have the hook as the debut record. “Spooky” falls quite flat, and “It Don’t Mean A Thing” has more cloy than coy. What is more refreshing are the originals. “I Can’t Believe I’m Not A Millionaire” and “Jilted” are fun, fresh and unashamedly female. More songs like this, and forget about the gimmick, go see them for the talent itself!
