My first encounter with saxer Lloyd, he uses all kinds of speeds, textures and dynamics. His brief cover notes talk intelligently about this disc, as to rhythm and structure. Some tracks are creative improv, others are chamber jazz, the contemporary equivalent of “west coast.” Marcio Mattos’ bass and Paul Clarvis’ percussion drive this rich session, and with Lloyd and cellist Stan Adler, also add texture. www.hathut.com.
