John Pisano
John Pisano's Guitar Night
Mel Bay Jazz
If you haven't
been to Spazio's Nightclub on a Tuesday night to see John Pisano host
his guitar showcase, here is your chance to make amends. Culled from almost
10 years of strumming with the best guitarists on earth, "Guitar
Night" features Pisano mixing it up with a virtual "Who's Who's"
on the six (and seven) string. Herb Ellis, Russell Malone, and George
Van Eps are just a few of the stars who are spotlighted on this essential
2 disc set.
Van Eps opens the set up with a gorgeous reading on his patented 7 string
on "I'll Never Be the Same." Most of the songs, however, are
in a setting with bass and drum providing sublime support in order to
allow the guitarists to stretch out unobstructed. Pat Kelly and Anthony
Wilson join together for an exhilarating version of "All of You".
Peter Bernstein dances with Larry Koonse on a breathtaking "My One
and Only Love", and Herb Ellis is down home on "The Blues"
recorded back in '99. All you'll want to do is just put on these discs
and bask in the abundance of riches on this release. This is a release
that you'll never grow tired of. Someone finally had the vision to put
together a recording of what everyone in LA knew: Spazio's is the place
for guitar groupies. Grab this asap, and consider it an engraved invitation
to see these masters in concert.
