On his swan song release, Cuban vocalist Ibrahim Ferrer put together an intoxicating set of songs that are perfectly suited to his world weary voice. Consisting of songs with an easy, steady flow, “Mi Sueno” envelops the listener like a warm breeze on a muggy night. This disc, with simple production, and lilting rhythms is filled with regret, remorse, yearning and hope, all sung with the voice of a man who has lived through it all. Ferrer says more during the end of a chorus of “Perfidia” than most singers can in entire disc. No translation is needed to grasp the visceral emotions of this man. This disc will play on your car for hours as you cruise the boulevard.
