Sia All right, are you looking for a singer a bit quirky, but don’t want any screaming, screeching or groaning? Sort of like Norah Jones, but could take something a bit more goosey? This Aussie named Sia Furler is the lady for you. Yes, the cover of the jacket is up there with the “top ten ugliest”, but don’t let that dissuade you. It’s all part of her charm. Her flexible voice is reminiscent of Janis Joplin, but without the Jack Daniels, therefore, a bit more cheerful and fresh. She’s backed by a modern popish/rockish/jazzy band, and even includes Beck on one of the tracks. The mood is upbeat, innocent, and the singing is with a wide-eyed open wonder of the world. An excellent writer, tunes like “Little Black Sandals” and “Day Too Soon” will infiltrate into the musical lobes of your brain. She’s able to veer between achingly sensitive to pajama party silly
